The Aim of Education
Education is a process of teaching, training and learning. Since it is a process, it must have some aim. Education in itself can’t be an aim. ‘The things taught in schools and colleges are not education but the means to attain the aim of education. Now what should be the aim of education ? To my mind, education should make a people easy co lead, but difficult to drive; easy to govern but impossible to enslave. In other words, education should make one a responsible and enlightened citizen. It should make him not only literate but also rational. It should make him a harmoniously developed personality. He should be above dogmas and superstitions but should have faith in God and goodness. Thus the aim of education should
be to make a person a useful citizen who knows his rights and duties and can lend a hand in the development of the country.
