How You were Cheated Once

 How You were Cheated Once

Last winter there was an acute shortage of LPG cylinders. The gas in our kitchen cylinder was finished and my mother sent me with the empty cylinder to the gas agency. She wanted me to have it replaced with a new cylinder. When I reached the gas agency, there was a very long queue of people waiting for their turn. I too joined the queue that was hardly moving forward. I had been standing there for about half an hour when a man came to me. He said that he could get me a cylinder immediately, if I gave him twenty rupees. I agreed at once and gave him my gas card, the amount for the gas, and also his twenty rupees. He took all these and went into the manager's room, asking me to wait outside. I kept standing for an hour, but the man didn’t turn up. I took courage and went into the manager’s room. I asked him about the man. The manager said that a man had come to him but not for the gas. He had only asked if there was one Sohan Lal, working in the company. The man went away through the other door when the manager said that there was no one of that name in their ‘company. Only then did I realize that | had been cheated. I could do nothing curse  ‘myself for trusting an unknown person.
